Zermatt overview

Zermatt Travel Guide
Home of the Matterhorn, Europe’s most iconic peak, Zermatt is truly a remarkable location to visit. The city’s name comes from the abundance of meadows and fields that once dominated the landscape. Funnily enough, many of the meadows no longer exist due to the town’s expansion. However, with its ‘car-free’ streets and alpine atmosphere, Zermatt is quite an entertaining destination; if you have the cash. The Matterhorn is the town’s crowning glory. Many a mountaineer has journeyed to Zermatt to conquer this monolith of Mother Nature but unfortunately some have failed to return home. Nevertheless, cable cars can access certain points on the mountain, with the highest at 3,883 metres. If your will is there but your legs (and stomach for that matter!) won’t let you ascend the famous mountain, then take a breath, stick around town and enjoy some of Zermatt’s welcoming hospitality and tranquil scenery.
