Chur overview

Situated in the Swiss east, Chur is a historic town and gateway to the beautiful canton of Graubunden. It is also the capital of the canton and is one of the oldest places around. Chur lies roughly smack, bang in the middle of the Alps and has been thoughtfully plonked amid a deep valley and flanked by impressive mountains. It is quite modern and lively and has a decent amount of historical worth along with noted spa facilities. Although Chur doesn’t have any skiing of its own, there are many on the route between Chur and Tirano in northern Italy. Davos and St Moritz ski resorts are two of the best, while Arosa and Surselva are closer to Chur.
