Bern overview

Let’s unlock one of Switzerland’s greatest mysteries - yes, Bern really is the capital city! Standing in the shadow of the more renowned cities like Geneva and Zurich, Bern is quite often innocently overlooked as Switzerland’s most significant city. Standing as the capital since 1848, Bern has been the beating heart of the country. Featuring a medieval Old Town district that has been granted status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, remarkable museums, electrifying festivals, and a divine night-scene, Bern can be overrun by tourists at certain times of the year. Fortunately, Bern is the gateway to many famous destinations in the Bernese Alps, so getting away from the city, if crowds become to overwhelming, is certainly a possibility. Still, the Munster, a daunting 15th century Cathedral is the dominant landmark of Bern, along with the breathtaking views from the Gurten.
